An ecosystem is a part of the environment which functions as a balanced entity: there is an exchange between its living and non-living elements. Every fully developed ecosystem consists of living things (plants and animals) and non-living elements (such as soil, air, water) which are closely inter-linked through a constant exchange.

Oak-hornbeam forest is a rich and varied deciduous woodland, mainly oak and ash with other deciduous trees.

Oak woodlands (also called acidophilic) are fairly rich woods growing on acidic soil, mainly consisting of Sessile oak with some beech.

Light, tall coniferous woodlands with dominating pine trees and some silver birch. The diversity of undergrowth is poor and, depending on the conditions, it consists of moss, lichens, bilberry sometimes with grasses and bracken fern.

These are woods that are found in river valleys and along streams in low lying areas; they have rich undergrowth and are often flooded in high water.
