Stop - The ‘life’ of a dead tree
Dead wood is a natural and a necessary element of the forest ecosystem. Fallen and decaying trees, as well as fragments such as broken tree tops or branches, are essential for a balanced and well-functioning woodland ecosystem. This micro-environment provides a home for a great abundance of living things: fungi, plants and animals. Several of these can be encountered along the trail.
